In Loving Memory
Grandparents are special. Dr. Turner's grandfather was no exception. He had a deep love for animals and found great purpose in rescuing pets in need. It's only fitting that a hospital largely dedicated to assisting pet rescues be named after a man whose life was rooted in animal rescue.
The work we do at Grant Veterinary Care is performed in his memory, with compassion, kindness, and a commitment to helping every animal that comes through our doors.

Melissa Turner, DVM
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Turner is a native of Virginia Beach. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Bioscience from the Pennsylvania State University followed by a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. With a desire to make a difference in the community, Dr. Turner started her veterinary career performing large animal emergency surgeries and practicing production medicine within Amish communities in rural Pennsylvania. Prior to opening Grant Veterinary Care, Dr. Turner worked as an HQHVSN/shelter veterinarian for the Virginia Beach SPCA and as the Medical Director for the Chesapeake Humane Society. Her interests in veterinary medicine include soft tissue surgeries, dentistry, and preventative care, and she is truly passionate about educating clients on the importance of year-round Heartworm Disease prevention. In her free time, she loves spending time cruising with her husband and two boys.
Marcie, LVT
Licensed Veterinary Technician
With over 26 years in the field and experience in emergency, urgent care, general practice, high volume surgery, and even shelter medicine there aren’t many things Marcie hasn’t seen. She’s worked in practically every area of veterinary medicine, and any practice would be lucky to have her. Marcie loves to learn and works hard to always create a truly stress-free environment for both are clients and their pets. She’s been married for over 20 years to her high school sweetheart, has one child, and a huge number of pets. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, reading, doing puzzles and traveling.
Alyssa, LVT
Licensed Veterinary Technician
Alyssa is a truly dedicated Licensed Veterinary Technician who has been caring for pets since 2010, with experience in general practice, emergency care, and neurology. Her favorite patients are the tiny old crunchies and the big goofy pitties—the ones with the most personality always seem to steal her heart. When she’s not helping animals, Alyssa is spending time with her best friend and wife. Together, they have built a wonderfully blended family full of love, fur, scales, and a few extra legs—including small and large dogs, a few kitties, a bearded dragon, and even a tarantula. She loves going to concerts and breweries, soaking up summertime, and fully embracing fall, which has her whole heart. Her perfect day would include grabbing a good book, curling up by the fireplace during a thunderstorm, and enjoying the cozy vibes. Alyssa is also a registered yoga teacher who enjoys hiking, photography, and makeup—proving she’s equal parts compassionate, creative, adventurous, and a little bit spooky in the best way.
Ashlee
Clinic Manager
Ashlee has been in veterinary medicine for over 16 years, meaning she has seen a little bit of everything and has lots of good stories to tell. She began her career in primary care alongside Dr. Turner before later moving into specialty medicine, where she spent more than a decade working in critical care, internal medicine, and surgery. Her experience makes her a calm, steady presence for pets, clients, and teammates alike, especially when things get busy. Ashlee is also currently enrolled in a Veterinary Practice Manager program as she continues to grow as a leader in the field. Outside of work, she can be found cheering on her son at the soccer field, supporting the Norfolk Admirals, or getting in a workout at the gym. With her experience, humor, and heart for veterinary medicine, Ashlee is an invaluable part of the Grant Veterinary Care team.
Teresa
Client Service Representative
After 27 years as a public safety 911 dispatcher and even managing the entire 911 control room, Teresa wanted to spend her retirement working with animals. People’s loss, animal’s gain. Her passion for rescue work led her to positions with both the Chesapeake and Portsmouth Humane Societies, where she served in many capacities including development, community resources, and fostering. She joined Grant Veterinary Care in 2024 as a client service representative, where she has become the focus of most of our Google reviews. In her free time, she enjoys being around her extended family, playing with her two dogs, and spending quality time with her husband.
Caroline
Veterinary Assistant (LVT in Training!)
Congratulations to Caroline on her recent acceptance to LVT School! We are so proud of her and know she will become an AMAZING LVT!!!
Our favorite local, Caroline was raised right here in Chesapeake. She attended Randolph-Macon University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Behavioral Neuroscience in 2024. Additionally, she was multi-sport college athlete as a member of both the Randolph-Macon softball and equestrian teams. Caroline started her professional career as an animal caretaker at Reba’s Animal Rescue and Adoption Center before coming to Grant Veterinary Care. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing softball, riding horses and the show Supernatural.
Amayah
Veterinary Assistant
Amayah grew up as a military kid, moving from state to state along the East Coast all the way to Texas, but her love for animals always came along for the ride. After growing up on vet shows and zoo shows, she first dreamed of becoming a marine biologist or zookeeper before realizing in high school that veterinary medicine was the perfect fit. She became a TCC Certified Veterinary Assistant in 2025 and has a major soft spot for cats—especially the wonderfully weird and elegant Oriental Shorthair. At home, Amayah has her own little crew: two cats, Currly and Gojo, and a dog named Appa. When she’s not helping pets, she’s probably baking something delicious, listening to music, drawing, or getting lost in good anime.
Amber
Veterinary Assistant
Amber is a Virginia Beach and Chesapeake native who turned her love of biology, animals, and the ocean into a giant adventure. After earning her Biology degree with a concentration in Marine Biology from ODU, she traded textbooks for scuba tanks and became an advanced open water and rescue certified diver. Now she volunteers at the Virginia Aquarium as a scuba diver, which is basically the coolest side quest ever. Make sure to wave to her inside the tank next time you’re there! When she’s not underwater, Amber can usually be found reading, creating art, or hanging out with cats and dogs—though pitties definitely get bonus points in her heart.
Lulu, CCO
Chief Comfort Officer
As the official team mascot of Grant Veterinary Care, Lulu takes her role in clinic hospitality very seriously. Her daily responsibilities include greeting clients with enthusiastic tail wags, supervising the veterinary staff, and providing mandatory snuggle breaks during busy shifts. As a puppy herself, Lulu specializes in emotional support, offering an exciting presence and ensuring everyone who walks through our doors feels instantly at home. When she is not actively managing clinic morale, you can find her napping under the front desk, patrolling the floors for dropped treats, or hanging out in the office.
