Symptoms
Your pet may exhibit the following clinical signs:
- discharge (open pyometra)
- vomiting
- lethargy
- fever
Treatment
An emergency spay procedure performed by a veterinarian is required. This procedure is not difficult for a skilled surgeon; however, it is important that the pyometra is identified and treated quickly.
Prevention
Spaying your pet before their first heat cycle (around 5 months) will prevent the possibility of this life threating condition. While we understand some pet parent’s hesitation to spaying their pet, this is just one of the many life-threatening conditions that can be prevented by spaying your pet.
